Meth Leppard Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
We just completed mixing songs a few months ago and we just played in Melbourne with Counterattack, Hailgun and Grudge a few weeks ago.

2.You have a demo and a split coming out later this year, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?
I am influenced by old school grind like Repulsion and Terrorizer so its a cross between those and a bit of Insect Warfare and Looking For An Answer.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Lyrically i cover some Australian themes and other social dependencies in society.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Meth Leppard'?
The drummer in my other band (Powerxchuck) came up with the name. It is great to make fun of Def Leppard.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band  played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We have only played 2 shows so far, the shows have been fun with a good response.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We plan to play more interstate shows because there is better interest for grindcore in other states. We plan to tour America next year.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
We are happy to keep the band as a 2 piece for now on, things may change in the future, time will tell.

8.Recently you where part of split with Bruce X Campbell, what are your thoughts on the other band that was a part of the split?
I have been a huge fan of Brucexcampbell for many years now and happy to do a split with them, also happy to work with Eli & Bloody Scythe Records again.

9.Can you tell us a little bit more about Bloody Scythe Records?
Bloody Scythe Records is a awesome label in the states run by cool dude called Eli. He releases killer grindcore and powerviolence bands like Fiend and Excruciating Terror.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore?
The feedback has been great, overall it has been very positive and some people like the old school sound.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that the band members are a part of?
I also play in powerviolence band Powerxchuck and we have a 7" split coming out with Italian powerviolence band  Always Never Fun. Our drummer plays in 2 other bands called Seminal Embalmment and Truth Corroded. He is currently on tour in Europe with Truth Corroded.

12.On the demo you had done a cover of Napalm Death's "Siege Of Power", what was the decision behind during your own version of this song?
I have always like that song cos it has a rocking riff, more of a handbanging Napalm song.

13.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
It is early days so far so we will mainly focus on some splits before we do a full length.

I really enjoy Concussive, Fiend and Jack at the moment plus i still love listen to old school grindcore.

Choked By Own Vomits Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Hi there. During last time we are working on new stuff for second full album. Our drummer is 100km far from us, so it is little bit slower smile emoticon. And our second guitarist Paaveel left the band. We are still friends, he has other hobbies and it did not have sense to continue only in half.

2.Recnetly you have released a new split, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Do you like it? wink emoticon This is from the same studio recording, if you mean split with Abortion and split with Narcoleptic. Split with Abortion is going to be released on CD and Cassette!!  I am pleased that it comes out on tape. It is cult. wink emoticon It should be on 7EP, so there are 3 different songs and some added from split with Narcoleptic, cause it has only 6 minutes. And this stuff is from another studio than all our older releases. This is from Davos Records and „Shit autopsy“ and older stuff were from Hell Sound. New is realy blast, older have bigger atmosphere, hard to say what is better smile emoticon.

3.The band has been around since 2004 but so far has only released a demo, full length and been a part of a few splits, can you tell us a little bit more about the gaps in between releases?

Demo and first split with Mocovy Khameni were recorded with old drummer „Ritak“. Next with SCAT, was recorded with Dzizr, current drummer. After full „Shit autopsy“ was some dark time, during its we adopted new member Feelipee, b-ass. We played gigs, tour with Ultimo Mondo Canibale was awesome wink emoticon. And in the end it was 4 years till new record.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

They are some funny jokes about shit and drinking grin emoticon In past it was mainly about song´s tittles. But now I try add more lyrics, it sounds better and I like vocal more than befor. Topics did not change too much wink emoticon, but some times there are some shit from this shit world.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Choked By Own Vomits'?

It is like a Czech proverb: Whoever digs a hole, alone in her falls. Or: Each make your own luck. And finally, a bad situation after the booze and the like.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Uuuff... this year was awesome gig in Děčín (Cz). In past were awesome Leeds (Uk), Kolotočovo (Sk), Mountains of death (Swi), Obscene Extreme (Cz), Sokolov (Cz), Zverovision (Ukr) and more. People play music their love wink emoticon.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

This weekend (24-25.7.) we are going to Bratislava (Sk) and Total war fest in Hungary – Kormend. In September we will go do something like mini tour wink emoticon to Italy. During that we play from time to time in Czech rep. Next year, after releasing of second full, we want to go again into England.

8.Recently you where a part of a split with 'Abortion', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

It´s legend of grind from Slovakia wink emoticon. We are friends cca 10 years. I like their music.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore?

What I noticed, it was positive. Hard to say more.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Me and bassist Felipe, we were playing project called „Cruel face of life“ (grind in vein of old Terrorizer, Napalm Death, Atrocity (US) … i hope wink emoticon now it is frozen... not much time for it and drummer have to solve other things in his life. Dzizr - drummer is playing long time with „Mocovy Khameni“ (crust grind), now they practise at minimum, but it is still alive. Befor he played „Umbrella“ too, realy cool gore grind. Pavel is continuing with „Bowel Fuck“, and Felipa played Cunnilingus too (grind, metal).

11.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

As I wrote we are working on new stuff and we want to release next full album next year. There are no plans how it has to sound, maybe like Choked by own vomits...smile emoticon It is natural evolution wink emoticon. Love to grind does not die, but no one becomes younger smile emoticon.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Of course they are bands like Dead Infection, Agathocles... Regurgitate, Terrorizer... classic of grind. But no one man does not listen only one genre, and who saids he does, he is lying wink emoticon. We listen crust, d-beat, punk, death metal... I can not hide I love old Sepultura wink emoticon. Oldschool Sweden death metal is awesome and of course Floridian bands too... etc.  In last time I found Suffering Mind, Archagathus, Unholy Grave, Masters Hammer...

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Of course I love horrors especially old clasick things – The Thing (numero uno), The Fly, Alien-s, Predator, Hellraiser, Razorback, The Return of the Living Dead, Evil Dead... I collected zombie movies wink emoticon. Then of course listening of music and visiting gigs. Garden... and gardenparty grin emoticon. With one friend we smoked sausages and burn schnapps wink emoticon. Dzizr is alcoholic and supporter of underground scene. Both with Felipe are foolball-fans and Felipe is sportsman, he is playing footbal too.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Big thanx for interview. This year we are „celebrating“ 10 year of choked... nothing special is planed now, but we want to say thanx all people who supported us during those years and hope you will continue wink emoticon  Thanx and cheers!

Meth Leppard/Bloody Scythe Records/2015 Demo Review

Meth  Leppard  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  an  old  school  mixture  of  crust  and  grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  demo  which  was  released  by  Bloody  Scythe  Records.

Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  a  very  brutal  grindcore  direction  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  as  well  as  adding  in  crust  style  growls  and  high  pitched  screams  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  beign  mostly  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  and  90's.

All  of  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  and  also  bring  in  melodies  at  times  while  also  avoiding  using  any  solos  or  leads  and  the  whole  demo  remains  true  to  a  very  heavy  musical  direction  and  also  closes  with  a  cover  of  Napalm  Death's  "Siege  Of  Power".

Meth  Leppard  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  old  school  styles  of  grindcore,  crust  and  power  violence  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  demo,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  real  life  themes.

In  my  opinion  Meth  Leppard  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Five  Course  Dumpster  Dive"  and  "Chop".  8  out  of  10.

Cranula/Human Savage/2015 EP Review

Cranula  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  a  mixture  of  death  metal,  grindcore  and  crust  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015 ep  "Human  Savage".

Experimental  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  starts  to  get  heavier  and  also  brings  in  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  speeding  up  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  melodies which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  grindcore  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Elements  of  crust  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bringing  an  early  90's  style  of  deathgrind  to  the  songs  they  are  utilized  on  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  add  a  touch  of  thrash  to  the recording  and  all  of  the  songs  remain  true   to  a  heavy  musical  style  and  the  last  track  closes  with  ritualistic  chanting.

Cranula  this  time  around  adds  in  more  death  metal  elements  while   still  keeping  around  their  mixture  of  grind  and  crust  from  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Cranula  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  crust,  grindcore and  death metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Carjacking"  and  "Poison".  8  out  of  10.
