Bombnation/Night Invasion/PRC Music/2014 CD Review

  Bombnation  are  a  band  from  Canada  that  plays  a  crossover  mixture  of  thrash  metal  and  hardcore  with  a  touch  of  d  beat  and  grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Night  Invasion"  which  was  released  by  PRC  Music.

  A  very  heavy  and  old  school  thrash  metal/hardcore  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  vocals  that  are  both  aggressive  and  melodic  at  the  same  time   and  the  music  also  starts  to  speed  up  with  some  melodies  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  at  times  you  can  also  hear  blast beats  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  enhance  the  old  school  thrash  metal  vibe  which  is  a  huge  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  they  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  influences  from  death  metal,  grind  and  d  beat  are  mixed  in  with  an  old  school  thrash  metal  sound.

  Bombnation  goes  back  to  the  80's  with  their  sound  taking  the  old  crossover  mixture  of  thrash  and  hardcore  and  mixing  it  with  the  heaviness  from  the  early  stages  of  grindcore  and  d  beat  to  create  an  album  that  is  very  heavy  from  start  to  end,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  heavy  metal,  alcohol,  dark,  violent  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Bombnation  are  a  very  great  sounding  crossover  mixture  of  thrash  metal  and  hardcore  along  with  a  touch  of  grind  and  d  beat  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Slayed  by  Slayer"  Kreator's  Destruction  Of  Sodom"  "Forget  it"  and  "Into  The  Night".  8  out  of  10.        

ShitFuckingShit/Life Of Excess/2014 Promo Review

  ShitFuckingShit  are  a  band  from  Italy  that plays  a  mixture  of  noisecore  and  grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  promo  "Life  of  Excess".

  Radio  station  sounds  start  off  the  promo  along  with  some  electronic  sounds  which  start  leading  up  to  some  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  leads  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  to  go  into  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  grindcore  direction  along  with  a  mixture  of  growls  and  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  some  death  metal  in  their  musical  sound.  

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  sound  very  powerful  and  the  band  plays  more  of  a  90's  style  of  grind  and  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  lot  of  heaviness  and  aggression  into  all  of  the  tracks  and  avoiding  all  modern  trends  that  have  watered  down  this  genre  over  the  years  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  see  the  band  add  in  a  small  amount  of  leads  as  well  as  adding  in  a  touch  of  crustcore.

  ShitFuckingShit  go  back  to  the  mid  90's  style  of  grindcore  playing  a  style  that  is  very  aggressive  and  old  school  sounding  and  they  bring  back  a  great  amount  of  aggression  that  has  been  missing  from  the  genre  in  the  last  few  years,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent,  hateful  and  gore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  ShitFuckingShit  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  noise/grindcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  promo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Funeral  Fag"  "Knife  For  The  Wife"  "Life  Of  Excess"  and  "Terror".  8  out  of  10.  

  

Monte Ida/Devotion/VDH Records/2014 EP Review

  Monte  Ida  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  screamo,  hardcore  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  ep  "Devotion"  which  was  released  by  VDH  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  as  well  as  some  melodic  clean  singing  vocals  and  after t he  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  post  hardcore  direction  and  the  vocals  start  to  evolve  more  into  screams  and  the  band  also  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy  parts.

  You  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  emotion  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  songs  stick  mostly  to  a  slow  to  mid  paced  direction  and  the  main  focus  of  the  ep  seems  to  be  mostly  on  the  melodic  parts  and  screams.

  Monte  Ida  sticks  mostly  to  a  post  hardcore  and  screamo  direction  while  also  bringing  in  the  heaviness  of  power  violence  and  while  this  is  not  really  a  style  I  listen  to  a  lot  I  still  feel  the  band  is  very  good  at  what  they  are  trying  to  accomplish  with  the  music,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  emotional  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Monte  Ida  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of   post  hardcore,  screamo  and  emo  violence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Teremene"  and  "Tauri".  7  out  of  10.

       

Torch Runner/Endless Nothing/Southern lord Records/2014 CD Review

  Torch  Runner  are  a  band  from  North  Carolina  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  grindcore,  crust,  power  violence,  death  metal,  harsh  noise  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Endless  Nothing"  which  will  be  released  on  September  30th  by  Southern  Lord  Records.

  A  very  harsh  noise  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  as  well  as  some  high  pitched  screams  which  leads  up  to  more  of  a  fast  and  brutal  musical  direction  which  also  incorporates  some  blast  beats  along  with  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  they  avoid  using  any  solos  and  leads  to  focus  more  on  a  very  raw,  heavy  and  brutal  sound  as  well  as  adding  in  elements  of  death  metal  and  power  violence  to  their  hardcore  influenced  crust  grind  musical  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Torch  Runner  takes  their  musical  direction  into  a  more  brutal  style  of  crust/grind  with  this  recording  and  the  album  is  very  heavy  and  aggressive  from  beginning  to  end  of  the  album,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Torch  Runner  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bound  By  Misery"  "Goldlust"  "Circle  Of  Shit"  and  "Unspoken".  8  out  of  10.



  

Warfuck Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Since NEANTIFICATION’s release we’ve played a lot in Europe, Turkey, and festivals, all we wanted and more than we expected, we’re actually in a really good mood. We also had a lot of fun during two euro tours with our friends Insomnia Isterica  in June and with Unsu in late August.

2.During the end of 2013 you had released your new album, how would you describe the musical sound of the newer music and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The new album is more accurate and worked than the first one. We’ve tried to record it in a more natural way, without metronome, so we kept the live dynamique. This album is closer of what we play on stage. This time, Mak did the mix and the great Dan Swano the mastering.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
We talk about issues in every day life, about what we think scary and stupid in humanity, how we hate spending time in our jobs, how we hate selfishness, glory, shitty actions and activities on social network, how we have good friends, how a love story can be violent but no one cares about it (based on true story), how we're unlucky on the road with our car problems…

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Warfuck'?
Nothing about hippies like “fuck war, make love” or nothing about “make war, it’s total chaos”
It comes from a Nasum’s song, written by Anders, called Warfuck which deals with women raped during wars as well as children who are born of it.
This is what our new t shirts represent.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
Less is more! We’ll keep this way, only 2 guys, it’s easier and there is less problems. Even if some times it’s not easy to fill big stages like 6 member's bands but we do our best.
If we wanna have a “real full line up”, we’ll do another project, Warfuck is 2 guys.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Our gig in Ankara (Tr) was probably the most intense. It wasn't legal, a lot of people came and it was tough inside the pit. The crowd fell on the drums three times and a man opened his forehead on Nico’s guitar, it was perfect!

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Actually it’s only projects, as lazy guys we’re not really into planning in advance but we’ll do another SuperBestFriends Tour with Chiens, Whoresnation and Doomsister, and we’ll try to play in some new countries where we’ve never been, maybe a new continent and maybe with a really cool band we’ve met on the road… nothing confirmed yet, we’ll see.

8.The new album was mastered by Dan Swano, do you feel honored this metal legend was a part of your new album?
Yes, it was awesome to work with him, he’s very good and it’s also very easy to work and exchange with him. Even if I was a little bit stressed because i made the mix and I’m a pure noob without knowledges.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of crust and grindcore?
It looks good, we had nice reviews mainly thanks to you Andy. It seems people more knows our name and like the new album. We’d rather play than to know if we have more “likes” on FB, so if we have new shows booked, it’s a good feedback for us.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
As I told you, we’re not planning in advance, a good example is the difference between the 1st and the 2nd album. We like to mix grindcore with some different kinds of music we like, so you’ll find some hardcore, black metal, brutal death, punk parts and maybe more.
It’s gonna be fast, close to grindcore and then we’ll see if the weed is good and if beers are strong enough.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We’re listening to a lot of punk rock on the road, for both of us it’s a big part of our influences. We also discovered a band that we really like called Youth Avoiders, it’s not grindcore at all but it’s awesome.
I (Mak) like to listen some hardcore stuffs like Terror or Wolf Down.

12.What is going on with the other musical projects these days that some of the band members are involved with?
We’ll release a new album with Obnoxious around September, our thrash death metal project where Mak plays drums and I’m bassist, and with Lovgun, my crusty fastcore project as drummer, we’ve release a new split the Norwegian from Higgs Boson.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Work, grind, booze and friends… That’s our life since the beginning of Warfuck. Even when we’re not playing, we book shows in Lyon FR when it’s possible or we go to see some friends in some other shows.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some blast  beats  and  a  good  mixture  of  growls  and  screams  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  more  fast  and  brutal  musical  direction  and  the  music  mixes  thrash  metal,  old  school  grindcore  and  power  violence  together  along  with  a  modern  touch  with  all  of  the  songs  being  very  short  in  length  and  the  ep  is  only  6  minutes  long.

  Die  Choking  remain  true  to  their  mixture  of  grind,  power  violence  and  thrash  keeping  everything  in  mostly  a  fast  and  brutal  musical  direction,  the  production  sound s very  professional   and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Die  Choking  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  grindcore,  power  violence  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "People  Like  You"  and  "Tonsil".  8  out  of  10.

Jig-Ai/Rising Sun Carnage/Bizarre Leprous Productions/2014 CD Review

  Jig-Ai  are  a  band  from  the  Czech  Republic  that  plays  a  very  brutal  form  of  noise/goregind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Rising  Sun  Carnage"  which  was  released  by  Bizarre  leprous  Productions.

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  grindcore  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  guttural  growls  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  high  pitched  screams  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  elements  of  crustcore.

  After  awhile  human  torture  and  rape  samples  are  added  into  the  music  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  slow  and  mid  paced  parts  which  also  gives  the  recording  a  slam  death  metal  feeling  at  times  and  some  of  the  later  tracks  also  shows  the  band  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  with  the  longest  one  being  a  little  over  3  minutes  long.

  Jig-Ai  plays  a  very  brutal  style  of  goregrind  from  beginning  to  end  of  the  recording  and  never  having  a  soft  moment  in  any  of  their  song,s  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  gore  and  porno  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Jig-Ai  are  a  very  great  sounding  goregind  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Suno  Sex  Instructor"  "Human  Tofu"  ":Natural  Tits  Mafia"  and  "Animal  Revenge".  8  out  of  10.
