Sonic Poison/Harsh Demonstration/Caligari Records/2016 Cassette Review

  Sonic  Poison  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  crust,  grindcore,  thrash  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Harsh  Demonstration"  which  was  released on  cassette by  Caligari  Records.

  Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of  a  brutal crust/grindcore  direction  along  with  some  screaming  vocals  and  you  can  also  hear  a  lot  of  80's  thrash  and  death  metal  influences  in  the  bands  musical  style  along  with  some  touches  of  hardcore  and  crossover  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Morbid  sounding  melodies  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  fast,  heavy  and  raw  musical  style  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  guitar  leads.

  Sonic  Poison  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  heaviest  elements  of  80's  crust,  thrash,  grindcore  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sonic  Poison  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of thrash,  crust,  grindcore  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Repulsive  Reactions"  "Carbonized"  and  "Miserable  Death".  8  out  of  10.      

Ribspreader/Suicide Gate - A Bridge To The Extreme/Xtreem Music/2016 CD Review

  Ribspreader  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  d  beat  influenced  form  of  melodic  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Suicidal  gate  -  A  Bridge  To  Death"  which  was  released  by  Xtreem  Music.

  A  very  raw,  heavy  and  melodic  Swedish  death  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  d  beats  and  growling  vocals  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  some  of  the  faster  sections  use  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  fast  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  all  of  the  songs  sound  like  they  could  of easily  been  recorded  more  than  20  years  ago  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  while  one  track  also  brings  in  a  few  seconds  of  psychedelic  sounds  but  the  main  focus  mostyl  remains  more  on  a  raw,  heavy  and  melodic  sound.

  Ribspreader  creates  another  recording  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  a  very  melodic  and  old school  style  of  Swedish  death  metal  while  the  d  beats  make  the  songs  stand  out  a  bit  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  gore,  blood  and  anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ribspreader  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  d  beat  influenced  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Descent  Of  The  Morbid"  "The  Suffering  Earth"  "World  Dismemberment"  and  "Under  Ash  Filled  Skies". 8  out  of  10. 

Deny The Cross/Alpha Ghoul/Tankcrimes/2016 CD Review

  Deny  The  Cross  are  a  band  from  California  that  plays  a  mixture  of  hardcore,  grind  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Alpha  Ghoul"  which  will  be  released  on  July  29th  by  Tankcrimes.

  A  very  heavy  hardcore  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  after  awhile  growling  vocals  and  elements  of  crust  punk  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  being  very  melodic  at  times  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  goes  into  more  of  a  grindcore  direction.

  A  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  which  also  makes  the  music  sound  more  brutal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  while  also  mixing  in  elments  of  power  violence  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  heavy  musical  direction.

  Deny  The  Cross  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  grind,  crust,  power  violence  and  hardcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent,  angry  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Deny The  Cross  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  grind,  hardcore  and  power  violence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heart  Like  Siberia"  "Teens  In  The  Graveyard"  "Hospital  Ballads"  and  "Alpha  Ghoul".  8  out  of  10.

 

 

Hauser/(des)razoa/2016 7 Inch Review

  Hauser  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  metal,  hardcore,  and  grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "(des)razoa".

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  as  well  as  some  death  metal  growls  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  goes  into  more  of  a  grindcore  direction  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  mid  paced  sections  bring  in  elements  of  hardcore.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts while  some  of  the  riffs  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  fast  riffs  also  bring  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and the  music  also  always  remains  very  heavy  and  the  music  is  perfectly  balanced  between  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads.

  Hauser  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  most  heavy  and  brutal  elements  of  death  metal,  hardcore  and  grind  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  self  released  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  their  native  tongue  and  cover  angry  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion Hauser  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  metal,  grind  and hardcore  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Falsa  Esperanza"  and  "Inventado".  8  out  of  10.

Ghoul/Dungeon Bastards/Tankcrimes/2016 CD Review

  California's  Ghoul  have  returned  with  a  new  album  which  continues  the  death  metal,  grindcore,  thrash  and  crust  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Dungeon  Bastards"  which  will  be  released  on  July  29th  by  Tankcrimes.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  horror  movie  samples  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  thrash  metal  direction  along  with  some  melodic  old school  metal  style  guitar  leads  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  to  speed  up  and  introduces  blast  beats  onto  the  recording.

  The  vocals  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  grindcore  screams  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  punk  style  back  up  gang  shouts  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  crust  influences  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  80's  and  90's  influences  in  with  a  more  modern  sound  and  the whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  very heavy sound.

  Ghoul  creates  another  recording  that  takes  death  metal,  thrash,  grindcore  and  punk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  very  old  school  and  heavy,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  movie  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ghoul  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bringer  Of  War"  "Ghoulunatics"  "Word  Is  Law"  and  "Abominix".  8  out  of  10.

Bent Sea/To Dust/Ascend/Descend/Give Praise Records/2016 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split album  between  Bent  Sea  and  Ohio's  To  Dust  called  "Ascend/Descend"  which  was  released  by  Give  Praise  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Bent  Sea  an  international  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  grindcore  with  some  elments  of  noisecore.

  Their  side  of  the  split starts  out  with  angry  crust  style  vocals  and  heavy  guitars and  after  awhile the  music  goes  into  a  fast  grindcore  direction  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  chaotic  fashion  and  most  of t heir  songs  are  very  short  in  length  while  also  being  very  short  in  length  while  also  always  remaining  brutal  and  all  of  the  musicla  instruments  sound  very  powerful  and  their  is  also  a  brif  use  of  spoken  word  samples,  the   production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bent  Sea  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "To  The  Extreme"  and  "Animals".

  Next  up  is  To  Dust  a  band  that  plays  a  very  brutal  form  of  grindcore  with  elements  of  hardcore  punk  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  brutal  grindcore  sound  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  angry  hardcore  style  vocals  and  you  can  also  hear  a  lot  of  death  metal  influences  in  the  music  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  being  very  powerful  sounding  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  the  riffs  also  get  very  melodic  in  some  of  the  songs,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  chaotic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  To  Dust  are  a  very  great  sounding  grindcore  band  with  traces  of  hardcore  punk  and  brutal  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Deception  Hymn"  and  "Hegemonic  Scars".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  brutal  grindcore.  8  out  of  10. 

The Afternoon Gentlemen/Still Pissed/Give Praise/Compilation Album Review

  The  Afternoon  Gentlemen  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  mixture  of  grindcore  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  compilation  album  "Still  Pissed"  which  was  released  in  July  by  Give  Praise.

  A very  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  later  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  while  the  vocals  are  high  pitched  grindcore  screams  along  with some  crust  style  shouting  in  the  background  and  most  of t he  tracks  are  very  short  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  growls  along  with  hardcore  style  vocals  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recordings  and  when guitar  leads  are  utilized  briefly  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  spoken  word samples can  also be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  compilation  progresses  elements  of  power  violence  can  be  heard  and  later  songs  also  bring  in a   brief  use  of  pig  squeals  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.
