MatraK AttaKK Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

MatraK AttaKK is a 6 piace crust/grindcore band. We all come from different bands. Most of us are busy with music since quite a lot.. Some of us where playing hardcore/D-beat,some anarcho-punk/crust, some Thrash/black metal, some punk/ska. And we are mixed up in the darkest way, but with a lot of energy.
MatraK AttaKK comes from the ashes of S.Y.N. :4 of us where playing here since 2013, then in 2014 the drummer and one singer left, so we kept on playing with a different drummer and singer.We changed so much in a positive way, that we decided to change name.

2.In June you had released your first album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

All the songs of the CD are a mixture of what we were since 2013, when 4 of us where toegether in the band S.Y.N. : when the new drummer and new other singer joined, it was clear that we were going to change, and gladly!Everything became faster,shorter and louder.
So now, in grind we crust, no doubt about it!

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

There we also put our different backgrounds: in the CD most of the lyrics are anti-psychiatric, then some are about war, shit-system, post nuclear visions...

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'MatraK Attakk'?

I guess it just sounded cool when Mosh, our singer, send us all a message for having a new name.After some of us, gave a meaning to it. It's about 'one of the thousand victims of psychiatry and fascism'. A Matrak is the police's cosh (baton, billy club, nightstick).

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

If you see MatraK AttaKK live, you see a lot of people on the stage and 4 going crazy: a lot of energy, rage, cables everywhere, falling pieces of drum, falling drummer, falling singer, singers running around, guitar in the front...check on youtube if you're curious :)

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

yes soon! In September a gig at a friend's birthday and 25september with Napalm Death and Silence Means Death in Brussel, and we can't wait for it!About a future tour it's going to be in march, but has to be fixed with a driver this time.Last tour was amazing but we went with 2 cars and 3 of us driving.We went to Rotterdam,Groeningen,Luik,Bremen(2 times),Leipzig and Berlin(2 times) so it wasn't that much of driving, but to go further we need some help to drive, and to be all together in a van :) for 2018 we are going to Indonesia, if i can fix everything so far, but I'm already busy with it, some friends there are going to help us!

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We received the help of 2 DIY labels to release our CD(Vleesklak Records and Dead Punx Records), but we are never going to be signed with a exclusive contract: it takes away all the freedom, and mostly bigger labels just ask you money to tour with big bands. we dont need this shit.we like the DIY scene.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of crust and grindcore?

I'm experiencing it now on stupid facebook: before there was myspace to do all this.I dont like using fb, but it's a easy way to share your music.We fixed the previous tour online, in the DIY network. A lot of people from all over the world are sending us greetings and appreciation: that's nice.some want to do splits with us,some want our songs for compilation: that's all great!

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are going more and more grind, but we'll never be purely grindcore: we are 6 people in this band: our drummer is a grindcore fan, and you can hear it!I personally like 80s sounds in punk/crust/hardcore and grindcore, the other singer likes black/thrash metal as well, our bass player likes punk, the 2 guitars are also really different ppl, one likes it more crusty and the other grinds more.The results are the latest songs of the CD : Fuck shit up, Matrak AttaKK, Duisterdom...you'll hear the new unreleased songs in the next recordings around october 2016.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are two people answering the interview luckily, so you won't read too many bands:
Jona  : Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Haemorrage, old Sepultura, Obituary, some grind
Cristina : Plasmatics, Thulsa Doom, old Detente(w/ Dawn Crosby), Harum Scarum, Lost World..and fuck yes, Bonnie Tyler as well.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

The wrong two ppl to ask ehe..we run a little diy booking thing and we organize other bands in belgium,therefore we make flyers, we cook and we make party's.The others of the band like to travel, but they are also too much into music.ehe

Sunlights Bane/Geist/Seeing Red Records/2016 Split 7 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  7  inch  between Michigan's  Sunlights  Bane  and  England's  Geist  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Seeing  Red Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review with  Sunlights  Bane  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  d  beat  and  grind.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  brutal  grindcore sound  that  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  and  d  beats  along  with some death  metal  growls  and  angry  hardcore  style  shouting  and one  of  their  tracks  are  very short  in length  and  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  both  songs  also  sticks  mostly  to  a  very  fast  and  heavy  sound  while  also  bring  in  a  slight  black  metal  influence  and  some  mod  paced  sections,  the production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sunlights  Bane  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  b  beat  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Spoke  of  the  Cancerous  Void".

  Next  up  is  Geist  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  d  beat  and  grindcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  aggressive  sound  along  with  some  power  violence/hardcore  style  shouts  and  the  music  also  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  d  beat  elements  while  also  mixing  in  the  heaviness of  grindcore  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  themes.

 In  my  opinion  Geist  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  power  violence,  d  beat  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Location  Data".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  d  beat,  power  violence  and  grindcore.  8  out  of  10.

MatraK AttaKK/Self Titled/2016 CD Review

  MatraK  AttaKK  are  a  band  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  and  self  titled  2016  album.

  A  very  distorted  amp  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  d  beats  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  punk  style  vocals  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  crust  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  elements  of  grindcore  van  be  heard.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and fast  parts  while t he  music  also  brings  in a  great  amount  of  mid  80's  and  early 90's  influences  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  and  there  is  only  a  brief  use  of  guitar  leads  and  some  of t he  riffs  also  bring  in  a  little  bit  of  melody  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical instruments  that  are  present  on  the recording.

  MattraKK  AttaKK  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes old  school  hardcore,  punk,  crust  and  grindcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  musical  sound  of t heir  own,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  political  and  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  MattraKK  AttaKK  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "No  Self  Defence"  "Duisterdom"  "GasWar"  and  "Fuck  Shit  Up".  8  out  of  10.

Existench/Deboned/EveryDayhateRecords/2016 Split 7 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Canada's  Existench  and  Deboned  which  was  released  by  EveryDayHate  Records  and we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Existench     a band  that  plays  a  mixture of  crust  and  grindcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  drum  beats  and  a  heavy  guitar  sound  and  a  feel  seconds   later  high  pitched  screams  and  death  metal  growls  are  added  into  the  music  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  grindcore  elements  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  The  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount of  crust influences  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  melody  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  the  songs  also  avoid  using  any  guitar  solos  or  leads  and  the  music  always  remains  heavy,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Existench  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Polluted"  and  "Con-Formed".

  Next  up  is  Deboned  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts out  with  horror  movie  samples  before  going  into  a  very  fast  grindcore  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  crust  style  vocals  and  the  music  also  brings  in  some  crossover  elements  and  all  of  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  while  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  tracks  remain  very  heavy  without  ever  using  any  solos  and  leads,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  movies  and  serial  killer  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Deboned  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Decaying  Rotten  Insides"  and  "March  Of  the  Faceless  Freak".

  in  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  crust  and grindcore.  8 out  of  10. 

Myteri/Self Titled/EveryDayHate Records/2016 CD Review

 

  Myteri  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  melodic  hardcore  and  crust  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  album  which  was  released  by  EveryDayHate  Records.

  Clean  guitars  and  nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  as  well  us  using  some  growling  vocals  which  bring  in  a  touch  of  death  meta  while  also  mixing  in  some  angry  hardcore  style  vocals.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  bring  in  a  lot  of  crustcore  elements  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  brief use  of  back  up  female  vocals.

  Myteri  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  crust  and  mixes  it  in  with  a  melodic  style  of  hardcore  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  political  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Myteri  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  and  melodic  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of those  musical  genres, you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Act  Right  Now"  "Deforestation"  and  "Nykter".  8 out  of  10.  

Six-Score/Lebensraume/WOOAAARGH/Hectaccome/Everydayhate/2016 CD Review

  Six-Score  are  a  band  from  Austria  that  plays  a  mixture  of  d  beat,  hardcore  punk,  metal  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Lebensraume"  which  will  be  released  in  October  as  a  joint  effort  between  WOOAAARGH,  Hectacome,  and  EveryDayHate.

  Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  albumwhich  also  leads  to  a  heavier  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  growling  vocals  and screams  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  elements  of  grindcore  and  blast  beats  as  well  as  a  touch  of  hardcore  punk  and  the  riffs  also  get  melodic  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  while  also  incorporating  a  great  amount  of  d  beat  influences  as  well  as  some  death  metal  touches  and  all  of  the  songs  avoid  any  guitar  solos  or  leads  and  the  whole  album  also  remains  very  heavy  from  beginning to  ending  of  the recording  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Nasum's  "Scoop".

  Six-Score  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  d  beat,  hardcore  punk,  grind,  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their own,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Six-Score  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  grindcore,  hardcore  punk,  d  beat  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dump"  "Contracts"  "Bad  to  Worse"  and  "Circle  Of  Despair".  8  out  of  10.  

  

 

Darkwell/Moloch/Massacre Records/2016 CD Review

  Darkwell  are  a  band  from  Austria that  plays  a  mixture  of  goth  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Moloch"  which  was  released  by  Massacre  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  symphonic  keyboards  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  female  vocals  are  brought  into the  music  they  take  the  recording  into  more  of  a  goth  metal  direction  which  is  done  in a  more  modern  style.

  At  times  the  music  brings  in  a  touch  of progressive  rock  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  slower  riffs  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal  and  a  couple  of t he  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length   and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount of  industrial  influences  can  be  heard  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of death  metal  growls.

  Darkwell  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  goth  metal  sound  of  previous  releases  while  also taking  it  into  a  more  modern  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Sorrow  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Darkwell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  goth  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Moloch"  "Fall  Of  Ishtar"  "Loss  Of  Reason"  and  "Awakening".  8  out  of  10.
