Polynove Pole/On The Edge Of Abyss/2017 EP Review

  Polynove  Pole  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  mixture  of  goth,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  ep  "On  The  Edge  Of  Abyss".

  Clean  playing  and  record  player  static  start  off  the  ep while  the  keyboards  gives  the  songs  a  more  atmospheric  feeling  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  as  well  as  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melodic  riffing.

  When  female  vocals a re  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  goth  feeling  while  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  whispered  vocals,  a  couple  of  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts,  acoustic  guitars  and  stringed  instruments,  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  there  is  also  a  brief  instrumental  as  the  ep  progresses.

  Polynove  Pole  plays  a  musical  style that  takes  goth,  doom  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  philosophy,  mysticism  and  dark  romanticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Polynove  Pole  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  goth,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cain's  Children"  and  "On  The  Edge  of  The  Abyss".  8  out  of  10.

  

Repulsione/Desecrating/WOOAAARGH/2018 CD Review

  Repulsione  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a mixture  of  grindcore  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018 album  "Desecrating"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  WOOAAARGH.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  grindcore  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  guttural  death  metal  growls  and  high  pitched  screams  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  mixing  in  elements  of  power  violence.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  short  in  length  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  samples  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy  and  brutal.

  In  my  opinion  Repulsione  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  grindcore  and  power  violence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Eternal  Darkness  Of  A  Useful  Skull" "Sacrifice" "1985"  and  "Emptiness".  8  out  of  10.  

Morphcored/Beyond The Kings/CDN Records/2018 CD Review

  Morphcored  are  a  band  from  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death,  thrash  metal,  grind  and  noisecore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Beyond  The  Kings"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  CDN  Records.

  A  sci-fi  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  melodic  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  grindcore  along  with  some  touches  of  early  90's  era  death  metal  and  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  growls  and  screams.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album progresses  the  music  starts  incorporating  more  elements  of  noisecore.

  Morpchored  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  thrash,  death  metal,  grind  and  noisecore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Morpchored  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death,  thrash  metal,  grind  and  noisecore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fourfold  Fined"  and  "Large  Hadron  Collider".  8  out  of  10.

Hardcore Anal Hydrogen/Hypercut/Apathia Records/2018 CD Review

  Hardcore  Anal Hydrogen   are  a  band  from  Monaco  that  plays  an  experimental mixture  of  death  metal,  hardcore  and  grind  with  some  elements  of  jazz  and  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Hypercut"  which  will be  released  in  March  by  Apathia  Records.

  Aggressive  drumming  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  and  underground  electronic  music  elements  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  grindcore  direction  which  also  uses  a  mixture  of  hardcore  style  vocals  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  fashion  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  the  electronic  music  and  heavy  parts  together  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  When  saxophones  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  add  in  elements  of  avant  jazz  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  bringing  in  elements  of  50's  era  blue  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  as well  as  one  track  also  mixing  in  elements  of  mid  50's  to early  60's  pop  music  and  some  later  tracks  add  in  touches  of  classical  music and  black  metal  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length and  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  vocals  onto  the  recording.

  Hardcore  Anal  Hydrogen  plays  a  musical  style  that  captures  the  heaviness  of  death,  black  metal,  grind  and  hardcore  while  also  experimenting  with  many  other  musical  genres,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  their  native  tongue  and  cover  humorous  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Hardcore  Anal  Hydrogen  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  mixture  of  death  metal,  grind  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "Jean  Pierre"  "Paul"  "Entopie,  Maxinum"  and  "Automne  1992".  8  out  of  10.   

   

Sonic Poison/Combat Grind/Caligari Records/2018 EP Review

  Sonic  Poison  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  thrash,  death  metal,  crust  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018 ep  "Combat  Grind"  which  was  released  by  Caligari  Records.

  A  very  heavy  thrash  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some screaming  vocals  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along w ith  a  great  amount  of  d  beat  and  crust  elements  as  well as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  adn  when t he  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Vocals  are  mostly  mid  80's  style  death  metal  growls  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  grindcore  elements  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  sticking  to  an  old  school  style  of  extreme  metal  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  the  vocals  also add  in hardcore  style  shouts  at  times.

  Sonic  Poison  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  mixture  of  thrash,  death  metal,  crust  and  grindcore,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  nuclear  war,  apocalypse,  politics  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sonic  Poison  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  thrash,  death  metal,  crust  and  grindcore,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Straight  To  Hell"  and  "Nausea".  8  out  of  10.

Neolithic/Martyrdod/Deep Six Records/2018 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Baltimore,  Maryland's Neolithic  and  Sweden's Martyrdod  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Deep  Six  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Neolithic  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  hardcore,  d  beat,  crust  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  guitar  sound  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  alter  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  elements  of  hardcore,  d  beat  and  crust  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  screams  are  also  used  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Neolithic  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  hardcore,  d  beat,  crust  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.

  Next  up  is  Martyrdod  returning  with t heir  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  with  some  black  metal  touches.

  There  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  yet  melodic  sound  along  with  some  elements  of  crust  and  grindcore  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  screams  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Martyrdod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  hardcore,  crust,  d  beat,  grind  and  death  metal.  8  out  of  10. 

   

  

Wake/Misery Rites/Translation Loss Records/2018 CD Review

  Alberta,  Canada's  Wake  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of  crust  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Misery  Rites"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Translation  Loss  Records.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  while  also  introducing  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  high  pitched  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  brutal  blast  beats  and  grindcore  elements  can  also  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  being  very  short  in  length,  at  times  some  of  the  riffing  gets  very  dissonant  as  well  as  adding  in  some  avant  garde  elements  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  guitars.

  Wake  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  mixture  of  crust  and  gindcore  while  showing  a  great  amount  of  progress  as  musicians,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  oppressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  crust  and  grindcore,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Exhumation"  "Rot" "Rumination"  and  "Burial  Ground".  8  out  of  10.
