Blastomycosis Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We just released in CD form, covered in flies and afterbirth through CDN records. We are booking shows for the year and writing some new material for a new release.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

I'd say its kind of a blend of brutal/tech and old school death with some slammy parts here and there.  Short, punchy, catchy songs.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years with their music?

Lyrically, we are quite comical.  Usually, about bodily fluids, mutilations,  whores, pretty standard, hah

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blastomycosis'?

Blastomycosis is actually a fungal disease.  Happens mostly in dogs, but people get it too, and it's pretty brutal.   Plus it has "blast" in it.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Playing with Incantation was pretty awesome.   Also touring with Lividity back in 09 was a great experience.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have a few confirmed shows so far, we are working on a tour soon, hopefully it all works out.

7.CDN  Records  are re-issuing your 2015 album in 2017, what are your thoughts on the final product?

Well the music is great (so buy it!), package is simple but looks wicked.  We are more than happy with it.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal and grindcore?

Pretty good!  Our following is pretty cult but the majority of the feedback has been great.  Even the bad feedback has been hilarious.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

4/5 of us are in WILL OF THE ANCIENTS, a melodic black/death band.  I'm writing a new album, and taking my sweet as time with it.  We are in no rush.  It's coming together though.

Mike is in MORS VERUM.  I believe they are doing some pre production/writing for their second album.

10.When can we expect newer music and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Working on it now.  Hopefully (don't quote me on this) we will have something out by early next year.  Maybe sooner.

11.What are some of the bands or musical projects that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

For myself, as influences on Blastomycosis  bands like Dying Fetus, Jungle Rot, Desecration, Cannibal Corpse.

Right now I'm listening to a lot of Ontario Death metal.  Gravitational Distortion, Accursed Spawn, Human Compost, Corprophemia, Ending Tyranny, Fractal Generator, tons more.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I like stand up comedy, gaming, politics.  Most of my time is taken up with musical stuff

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Buy the album and support death metal!
