Ashes You Leave are a band that started out as a doom/death metal band but have evolved into a more gothic/doom metal direction over the years and this is a review of their 2012 album "The Cure For Happiness" which was released by Rock N Growl Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the violins bring a very dark, atmospheric and gothic sound to the music along with some keyboards being utilized at times, as for the bass playing it has a very and powerful tone with heavy and melodic riffing that dominates throughout the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced gothic/doom metal riffs with a good amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as some soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding doom/gothic metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use full chords, finger picking and dark riffs to add more darkness and depression to the music.
Vocals are mostly clean singing female gothic metal vocals with some harsh sounding whispers and deep death metal growls being thrown into the music at times, while the lyrics cover dark and depressing themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Ashes You Leave are a very great sounding gothic/doom/death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devil In Disguise" "The Ever Changing" "Summers End" and "For Happiness". RECOMMENDED BUY.
