This is a review of a split album between Michigan's Cloud Rat and Netherlands/Germany's Crevasse which will be released on April 20th by Halo OF Flies and we will start off the review with Cloud Rat a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of grindcore and punk.
Their side of the split starts out with distorted and harsh noises before going into a very fast and brutal grindcore direction that also uses a great amount of blast beats and screaming vocals while elements of crust are also used at times and most of their tracks are very short in length.
Throughout their side of the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and clean guitars along with melodic vocals are added on the last track, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover feminism, woman rights and self empowerment themes,
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cloud Rat and if you a re a fan of punk, noise and grindcore you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Drain Pipe" and "Fish In A Hole".
Next up is Crevasse a band that plays a mixture of power violence, and hardcore punk.
Their side of the split starts out with drum beats along with some heavy riffs a few seconds later as well as a brief use of clean singing which evolve into more of a hardcore style while the riffs also mix in elements of crust and power violence and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful.
Throughout their side of t he recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while both the riffs and guitar leads also use a decent amount if melody, along with a touch of grindcore, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and hateful themes.
In my opinion Crevasse are a very great sounding mixture of power violence and hardcore punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Dead Body".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of power violence, grind and hardcore punk. 8 out of 10
