Bruce X Campbell Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band? well the band was first created by myself (jon) and my friend chris in late 2005, we were bored teenagers that had a strong passion for crust/grind so we decided to start brucexcampbell, the first day of its creation we wrote about 5-7 songs and played our first show in east los angeles. Over the year's it has had different members, now we evolved to a 4 piece chaos grind band, rolo-drummer, juan-bassist, jeffrey-vocalist, me-guitarist/vocalist.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings? our style of grind is untraditional, it has some groove to it, along side with some sluggish hate, with alot of fearsome blast beats.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music? the lyrics range from past experiences in life,to udder disgust with humanity, and what it has become.

4.I know that the band is named after the actor of the same name, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in his movies? well they are goofy, funny, and unexpected those are the best one's.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance? most of our best show's i'd have to say were backyard shows, filled to the end's of the yard and just the vibe of them were very overwhelming, waves of bodies splashing against one another those were the best one's. stage performance... we try our best to not play on stage's, we mainly just put all our energy and passion into playing our instrument's, that is what we love.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future? we plan to play california deathfest this year in oakland, very stoked on that. We also recently got added to maryland deathfest. Our mind's mind's were blown after we received the news, so we might set up mini tour when we had to maryland.

7.So far you have been a part of a few splits, can you tell us a little bit more about the bands and labels you have worked with on these recordings? well  both of our splits with green terror and pyogenic cystclot were released by eli from bloody scythe records. He has helped us out alot can't thank him enough, he's also releasing another split for us soon. The band's that we did the split with great guys and amazing grind band's !

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore? the feedback has been great, but i hear people have been wanting more from us, which we have alot of music but we've all been stuck in a rut for a while. Now that we all have our feet ground we'll be releasing alot more music for the world to destroy their ears.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? hopefully evolving even more into a beast of grind, like we have been for close to 10 year's now.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? well for me band's like dahmer that started me off than dystopia i love dystopia! insect warfare, mesrine, but for the other band member's we all have different taste our drummer for over 7 years now just barely started getting into grind i'd say a year or 2 ago, and he's a beast on drums! haha. What i listen to now still the same band's some crust his hero is gone, tragedy, remains of the day, agathoceles, the afternoon gentlemen, impaled, haemorrhage, warsore, list goes on as i am attempting to haha. 

11.What are some of your non musical interests? non musical interest, i'd have to say my son haha then i'd go back to music.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? keep the grind alive, stay rooted, and hail to the king.

Horsebastard/Noisebazooka/EveryDayHate Records/2015 Split7 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  England's  Horsebastard  and Austria's  Noisebazooka  which  was  released  by  EveryDayHate Records  and  we  will  start  off the  ep  with  Horsebastard  a band  that plays  blastcore.

  Spoken  word parts  start  off  their  side  of t he  blast  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  noise/grind  direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  brutal  blast  beats  along  with  some  element  of  crustcore  in  both  the  riffs  and  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  stick  mostly  to  a  fast  direction  while  some  mid  paced  and  slow  parts  are  utilized  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  humorous  and  angry themes.

  In  my  opinion  Horsebastard  are  a  very  great  sounding  blastcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saturday  Night Palsy"  and  "Taste  The  Smell  Of  Sound".

  Next  up  is  Noisebazooka  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  grind  and  noisecore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with a  very  heavy  bass  guitar  sound,  blast  beats  and  angry  shouting  vocals  along  with some  reverb  spoken word  parts  before  adding  in  screaming  vocals  which  also  leads  to  more  of  a  grindcore  direction  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  one  song  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  guitar  leads  and  the  last  track  also  bring s in  a  small  amount  of  melody,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.                  

  In  my  opinion  Noisebazooka  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  grind  and  noisecore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out the  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Altered  Rainbows"  and  "Afterlife  Crossing".

  In  conclusion  i  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  grind  and  noisecore.  8  out  of  10.
 

Captain Cleanoff/Rising Terror/Blastasfuck Grindcore/2015 CD Review

  Captain  Cleanoff  are  a  band  from Australia  that  plays  a  mixture  of grindcore  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2015  album  "Rising  Terror"  which  was  released in  April  by  Blastasfuck  Grindcore.

  A  very  heavy  and  raw  grindcore  sound  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  blast  beats  and  the  music  also  brings  in  death  metal  growls  at  times  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  being  under  less  than  2  minutes  while  the  last  track  is  close  to  5  minutes.

  Elements  of  crust  and  power  violence  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  even  more  of  a  distorted  feeling  to the  music  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  thrash  influences  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Captain Cleanoff  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  heaviest  and  rawest  elements  of  power  violence  and  grindcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Captain  Cleanoff  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  grindcore  and  power  violence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rising  Terror"  "Ode  To  Nero"  "System  Collapse"  and  "Death  From  Skies".  8  out  of  10.   

Barrows Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?



All in all, we're just a band who loves to play music. We infuse all of what we've learned through life experiences into creating a sound that describes all of us in one. But, in essence...there's not a whole lot more to tell, haha. We're a group of guys, trying our hardest to do what we love. We don't have some epic story or some crazy coincidences that brought us forth. This is just our favorite thing to do and we'd love to keep on doing it.





2. So far you have recorded one album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?



It's always been a little tough to describe what musical sound we have. We're kind of like the textbook definition of entropy, “an equilibrium from organized chaos”. We're fast, we're hard hitting, sometimes slow and crushing, have our mixed bag of tempos, and we're technical where we see fit. It's a mash up of our influences and our own specific styles that we've developed over the years of learning how to voice our instruments.





3. The band has been around since 2008 but waited until 2015 to release any music, can you tell us a little bit more about the 7 year wait?



We started out as a band that was more of a hobby than anything. We'd play shows here and there locally, taking our time with writing. There was also a lineup change, and a few persistent medical issues that held us back too. But about 2 years ago, something changed. Like it clicked in all of our heads at the same time that this felt 'right', it felt 'real”. From there on, we wanted to do this seriously. So, we started to work our asses off, tried our best with writing, and picked out nine of our favorites to record. After that was done, we got our own little studio and recorded forthwith. And that was that. We're as focused as we've ever been as a band now.





4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?



There's a lot of hatred in the lyrics. A specific kind of hatred, born from sadness and abuse. Homicidal hatred, hatred from misogyny, a lot of hatred and wanting destruction of the world, self hatred, and suicide and self destruction.





5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Barrows'?



Well, the word Barrows in itself is a very ambiguous word. We chose the almost archaic meaning, derived from the Old English word bearg, which is a castrated male boar, or swine. The inspiration is from us playing brutal metal. Gotta have a brutal name to support the sound.



6. What are some of the best shows that the band has done so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?



Sometimes the best shows we play are at smaller venues. Generally the crowd is closer, you get to be more intimate with the fans which is a real fun experience. As to our stage performance, we try to put on a show by shying away from the simple - set up, play, tear down, fin. We set up fog machines, lights, strobes, samples, whatever we can get our hands on to make the experience more engaging and interesting for the crowd. We also work at practices to try and get ourselves as tight as possible for when show time comes. Don't want a sloppy show and a tight sounding album.





7. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?



Currently, we do have future show dates. Some booked locally, we have a CD release show happening, out of town show in a metal festival. We look to book shows when they come at us. As for touring, we want to spread our name as much as we can and establish as much popularity as possible before any big tour is announced.





8. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?



Yes, and yes. We've received some interest already, and been approached about our full length album. Which is almost surreal to see. Receiving more interest is always really awesome. And, as a band we'd like to reach out and get more people/labels interested in us as well.





9. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal and grindcore?



So far, response has been good with how we've been spreading out. Sometimes it can be a challenge for a band from a smaller city to reach out to the world. But thankfully, they invented the internet haha, which makes it way easier. From spreading as much as we have to the online world, and also in our own region, response has been very positive. We really hope to maintain that path of positivity.





10. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?



We're kinda taking it one day at a time. As of now, we're just spreading the word about us, and focusing on writing more material, and setting up more shows. What the future hold for us is a mystery, so we do our best and hope that charging into the unknown brings us good fortune.





11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?



Joey: Right now, I'm into the new Cattle Decapitation album, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, and Hands Like Houses. My inspirations range from Frederic Chopin, to Dave McGraw from Cattle Decap. Also Mario Duplantier from Gojira.

Lee: Grindcore and death metal have been my biggest influences, CODC, CIC, and Cattle Decapitation. Right now I'm really going though the original metal that started me off like, Sadis Euphoria, Killtheslavemaster, and Upheaval to name a few. And Wormrot is always being played.

Owen:  Bands like Immolation, Dead Congregation, Axis of Advance, and a lot of West Coast bands (In particular Crackwhore, Abuse, and Sinned) all have a certain feel to them and I'm drawn to that. Songs that you'll rewind back several times just to hear this super awesome riff where every instrument is perfect. Lately it's been a lot of Jayke Orvis, Bethlehem's Dark Metal, and the new Drudkh album.





12. What are some of your non musical interests?



Joey: Well, I'm really into bodybuilding, writing poetry and short stories, and being a biology/anatomy nerd.

Lee: I'm getting into drums a lot more now, getting out of the house and biking and music always has it's place with my other hobbies.

Owen: Love the documentaries, basketball (NBA 2k15), and putzing around the house and yard.

Absolutely. A big thanks to you for wanting to interview us.   This  is  a  review  of  a  sampler  from  Give  Praise  Records  called  "The  Path  To  Grind"  which  was  released  this month  and  we  will  review  the  songs  one  by  one.

  1.Abortion  brings  us  "Children  of  Satan"  a  song  that  starts  out  with  Gregorian  chants  before  going  for  a  more  brutal  noise.grindcore  sound  that  is  still  very  heavily  influenced  by  death  metal.

 2.Bruce  X  Campbell  brings  us  "Humanity  Deserves  to  Die"  a  very  aggressive  noise/grind  song  that  also  mixes  in  elements  of  power  violence.

 3.Choked  By  Own  Vomits  brings  us  "Sweatpants  Factory"  a  crust/grindcore  sound  that  also  mixes  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

4.Department  Of  Correction  brings  us  "Suck  It  Up"  a  very  fast,  aggressive and   brutla  crust/grind  sound.

5.Endless  Demise  brings  us  "Seeds  Of  Destruction"  a  very  fast  and  aggressive  song  that  mix crust,  grind  and  death  metal.

6.Fubar  brings  us  "Death  Or Doubt"  a  very  old  school  sounding  crust/grind  song.

7.Organized  Dorks  brings  us  "Your  Wealth" which  is  more  of  a  raw  noisecore  song.

8.Intestinal  Rot  brings  us  "Cranium  Crushing"  a  song  that  brings  in  horror  movie  samples  before  going  into  more  of  a  brutal  and  guttural  death/grind  direction.

9.Mesrine  brings  us  "Blood  Boils"  a  song  that  goes  for  a  very  old  school  crust/grind  sound.

10.Moloch brings  us  "Unendlichkeit"  which  is  more  of  an  ambient,  depressive  black  metal  track  and  changes  the  pace  of  the  compilation  a  bit.

11.Osk  brings  us  "Burning  Human" a  song  tha t mixes  brutal  grind  with  sludge.

12.Proleter  brings  us  "Global  Darkness  Destruction"  a  very  old  school  and  brutla  grindcore  song.

13.Ritual  Miser  brings  us  "Cult"  another  brutal  sounding  crust/grindcore  song.

14.Sick  Of  Stupidity  brings  us  "Slumber  Of  Humanity"  a  very  fast  and  brutal  sohng  that  mixes  crust  and  grindcore  together.

15.Soil  Of  Ignorance  brings  us  "Downfall  Existence"  a  song  that  mixes  power  violence,  crust  and  grindcore  together.

16.Strong  Intention  brings  us  "The  Carnivore"  a  song  that  mixes  punk,  crust  and  grindcore  together to  write  a  fast  song.

17.Suffering  Mind  brings  us  "Down  My  Throat"  which  is  a  Disrupt  cover.

18.To  Dust  brings  us  "The  Perspectivist"  a  very  fast  and  aggressive  crust/grind  sound  with plenty  of  brutal  blast  beats.

19.Violent  Opposition  brings  us  "Logic  Vs.  Retallation"  which  is  more  of  a  punk mixed  with  power  violence  song.

20.Wake  closes  the  compilation  with  "Smolder"  a  very  fast  and  aggressive  brutla  grindcore  song.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  compilation  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  crust  and  grindcore. 8  out  of  10. 

Herida Profunda/Self Titled/783 Landsberg Hardcore Crew/2013 CD Review

  Herida  Profunda  are  a  band  with members from  both Poland  and  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  mixture  of  hardcore,  crust  and  grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2013  album  which  was  released  by  783  Landsberg  Hardcore  Crew.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  small  amount  of  noises  that  start  to kick  in  after  a  while  and  after  the  into  the  music  goes  into  more  on  an  old  school  hardcore  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  growling  vocals  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  crust  elements  into  their  musical  style.

  High  pitched  grindcore  screams  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  hardcore  style  shouting  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  with  the  longest  being  close  to  3  minutes  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  and  all  of  the  music  remains  true  to  a  very  heavy  musical  direction.

  Herida  Profunda  plays  a  very  heavy  and  raw  musical  style  that  mixes  in  crust  and  hardcore  in  with  the  heaviness  and  speed  of  grindcore  to  create  a  sound  of t heir  own,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  violent,  hateful  and  political  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Herida  Profunda  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  hardcore,  crust  and  grind  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spalone  Mostly"  "Paraliz"  "783"  and  "Udreka".  8  out  of  10.  

    

Barrows/Swine Race /2015 Full Length Review Review

  Barrows  are  a  band  from Medicine  Hat,  Alberta,  Canada  that  plays  a  musical  style  that  combines  brutal  death  metal,  grind  and  noisecore  together  into  a  musical  style  they  call  'wargrind'  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  album "Swine  Race".

   A  very fast  and brutal  death  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  growls  that  also  get  very  guttural  at  times  and  they  also  bring  in  high   pitched  noisecore  screams  in  at  times  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  also  has  more  of  a  modern  and  brutal  approach  to  death  metal  and  grindcore  while  you  can  still  hear  a  lot  of  old  school  elements  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  whole  album  avoids  any  solos  and  leads  and  also  sticks  to  a  very  heavy  and  brutal  musical  direction  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording.  

  Barrows  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  brutal  death  metal  with  grind  and  noisecore  to  create  a  very  fast  ans  heavy  sounding  album,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  murder  and  chaos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Barrows  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  brutal  death  metal,  grind  and  noisecore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Children  of Matricide"  "River  Blindness"  "Martyr"  and  "Uxoricide".  8  out  of  10.
