Benumb/Soul Of The Martyr/Relapse Records/1998 CD Review

Benumb  where  a  band  from  California  that  played  a  very  brutal  form  of  power  violence/crust  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1998  album  "Soul  Of  The  Martyr"  which  was  released  by  Relapse  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  alot  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  power  violence,  crust  and  grindcore  together  mixed  in  with  alot  of  noisy  distortion  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  grindcore  style  growls  and  high  pitched  screams  mixed  in  with  some  spoken  word  parts  and  samples,  while  the  lyrics  cover  hateful  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  heavy  and  powerful  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Benumb  where  a  very  great  sounding  power  violence/crust/grindcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECEMMONDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "No  Regret"  "Stood  Up  And  Sold  Out"  "No  Hope"  and  "Lost  Perception".  RECEMMONDED  BUY.
