Avernus where a band from Chicago, Illinois that played a mixture of doom and gothic metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Of The Fallen" which was released by MIA Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats with some percussion being thrown in at times, while the keyboards bring a very dark, gothic and atmospheric feeling to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very strong and powerful sound to it that dominates throughout the album.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced gothic /doom metal riffs that are very and melodic sounding with some guitar synths being thrown in at times, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos or leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the darkness of the music.
Vocals are a mixture of deep death/doom metal growls mixed in with clean singing male and female vocals, while the lyrics cover dark and gothic themes, as for the production it has a very powerful and professional sound and you can hear every musical instrument that is presented on the recording.
In my opinion Avernus was a vey great sounding gothic/doom metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "'IF I Could Exist" "Ghost" and "Beutful Black Heart". RECEMMONDED BUY.
