Celestial Season are a band from the Netherlands that played a vey melodic and atmospheric form of doom/death metal with this album but later evolved into stoner rock, and this is a review of their album "Solar Lovers" which was released By Displeased in Europe in 1995 and then by Metal Blade Records in the U.S in 1996.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the violins bring a very dark and atmospheric feeling to the music with a brief use of pianos and synths being utilized on one song, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced melodic doom/death metal riffing that also has a stoner rock feeling at times, while the lead guitars are very dark, depressive, melodic guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking and full chords to bring a more tragic feeling to the music.
Vocals are mostly deep death/doom metal growls mixed in with some c,ean singing and spoken word parts, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very heavy and powerful sound.
In my opinion this was a great album from Celestial Season and if you are a fan of melodic atmospheric/doom metal, you should check out this recording. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Solar Child" "The Holy Snake" "Vienna" and "The Scent Of Eve". RECEMMONDED BUY.
