Striver are a band from Canada that plays a mixture of thrash, hardcore and power violence and this is a review of their 2012 album "Apocalypse Nightmare" which was released by PRC Music.
Electronic music sounds start off the album before going into more of an old school thrash punk direction along with some aggressive hardcore style vocals and crust style yells which also lead up to some blast beats and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the songs sound like they could of been recorded in the mid 80's.
The electronic sound make their return on some of the later tracks while the heavy parts have a very raw and aggressive feeling to them along with some of the faster material bringing in elements of early grindcore and some of the later tracks also see the band adding in a small amount of melody and guitar leads while the vocals also start getting more aggressive. and also bring in a small amount of death metal growls as well as the music start to have more of a modern grindcore feeling.
Striver starts off the album more with an 80's thrashcore type of sound before going into more of a grindcore and power violence direction during the later half and the band creates an album that is very heavy, vicious and brutal sounding, the production sound s very professional while the lyrics cover violent and hateful themes.
In my opinion Striver are a very great sounding mixture of thrash, hardcore, grind and power violence and if you are a fan of those musical genre,s you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Undead Me" "Ravages" "Pecked To Death" and "Cold Concrete Ground". 8 out of 10.
