Enabler are a band from Wisconsin t hat has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as being hardcore/crust with elements of grindcore and death metal and this is a review of their 2013 ep 'Flies" which was released as a joint effort between The Compound and Earsplit Distro.
"Switch" begins with heavy and melodic guitar riffs and drums and then t he bass guitars start kicking in and the song serves as an intro for the ep.
"Flies" begins with some heavy and melodic guitar riffs, drums that utilize some blast beats and some aggressive crustcore style vocals and you can also hear a few seconds of guitar leads in this song as well as a brief use of grindcore screams.
"Meaningless Life" begins with some aggressive vocals, heavy guitar riffs and drums and after awhile you can hear the bass guitars along with a brief use of guitar leads and the song switches back and forth between mid paced and fast parts.
"Sickened By The Wake" begins with some powerful bass guitars and screaming vocals which lead up to some drums and heavy guitar riffs which also utilize some melody and after a minute guitar solos and leads make their way into the song and towards the end the guitar riffs start utilizing some melody.
'Sleep Forever" begins with some melodic guitar riffs and drums which lead up to some drums, heavy guitar riffs and vocals and then the song goes into an old school hardcore/punk direction and towards the end there are some guitar solos and leads being utilized.
"Arise" which is a Sepultura cover begins wit h some fast and heavy guitar riffs which also utilize some melody and then the vocals start kicking in along wit h some back up shouts and deep death metal growls and then the music starts slowing down for a few seconds before adding in some thrash elements and then t here is a brief use of guitar solos and leads being utilized.
Song lyrics cover gloomy and everyday themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this ep.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Enabler and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Flies" and "Arise". RECOMMENDED BUY.
