This is a review of a split ep between Cleveland, Ohio's Masakari and Vancouver B.C's Tempest and we will start of the review with Masakari a band that plays a very heavy and brutal form of crust/grind.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a v ery powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast heavy and brutal riffs that combine crust and grindcore together to create a sound of their own along with some post rock melodies being thrown into the riffing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on their side of the recording.
Vocals range from deep crust growls to high pitched grindcore screams, while the lyrics cover pain and torture themes, a s for the production it has a very heavy, raw and primitive sound with one of the songs being recorded live.
In my opinion Masakari are a very great sounding hybrid of crust and grind with post rock elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the recording. RECOMMENDED.
