Abyssus are a band from Greece that played an old school form of death metal with a touch of d beat and crust and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Unleash The Storm" which will be released in March by Death In Pieces Records which consists of 2 original tracks and 3 covers.
War movie samples start off the ep before going into a heavier direction along with some death metal growls while the riffs also bring in a great sounding melodies as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful to sound to them and the music is heavily rooted in the early 90's.
Elements of crust and d beat can also be heard in the music at times while the solos and leads stick to an old school style while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a small amount of blast beats and they also bring in a cover of Bathory's "Rites Of Darkness" Venom's "Warhead" and Manilla Road's "Open The Gates".
On this recording Abyssus keeps their old school style while also adding in more d beat or crust punk elements this time around as well as bringing in cover tunes from bands that where a huge influence on them, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover death, war, and corruption themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Abyssus and if you are a fan of crust punk and old school death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Operation Ranch Hand" and "Open The Gates". 8 out of 10.
