Cross Examination are a band from St. Louis, Missouri that plays a mixture of thrash, hardcore, crust and grind and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Dawn Of The Dude" which will be released in August by Organized Crime Records.
Spoken word samples start off the ep before adding in heavy drums, guitars and bass which brings an old school thrash/crossover sound to the music and after the first track the ep goes into a more fast and raw direction along with some blast beats which leads up to some shouting crust/hardcore vocals and back up gang shouts.
When solos and leads are added into the music they enhance the old school extreme metal/punk sound this band creates with their musical sound and after awhile the vocals start utilizing more growls and screams and you can also hear some melody being added into the bands musical sound along with a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Cross Examination go back to t he 80's with t heir musical sound taking the thrash, hardcore and punk genres of that time and adding in some early crust and grind to create the musical sound that is displayed throughout the recording, the production sounds very heavy and old school while the lyrics cover thrashing, pot smoking and humorous themes.
In my opinion Cross Examination are a very great sounding mixture of thrash, hardcore, crust and grind and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ritual Snackrifice" and "Dawn Of The Dude". 8 out of 10.
