1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Times have been hectic towards the actual recording of the new full length Album GNORK! Completing songs, many hours of practicing and a lot of other stuff. Since the album came out we just enjoyed our free time a little bit more! Played a couple shows in Holland and Spain but other than that we have been chilling a lot and just drinking beers and party! In the meantime some extra shows have been confirmed and the already booked shows are on their way so now where preparing for all the cool shit that’s ahead of us this year!
2.In May you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The way our music comes together is always by influence of what we have been listening or the type of thing we are into at that moment. Or better; just what we like ourselves to do. Were never specifically looking for a certain sound or rhythm. We just play what we like so there is naturally always an evolvement in the songs. We write songs the whole year round so that is also a big reason for the diversity over the whole album.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
Hahaha the lyrical topics are very carefully chosen!! We value things like “Ballad of Balls” and “Chocolate Milfshakes” a lot. Obviously there has been some serious thinking in this particular area of the music ;) We strongly believe the world needs to be better informed about “Goregrind Graveyards” and Animals panicking the fuck out of the porn planet. This shit is deep. Listen carefully and prepare to be amazed and educated!
4.Originally the band was known as 'Carnal Rancidity' what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Rectal Smegma'?
What your referring to now is over 13 years ago. The band was not really started yet but in very early phase. Since the line up was a little bit more solid the name changed immediately to Rectal Smegma. Obviously we have not been thinking this thing really trough back in the day. That being said; we are very proud of our band name since the very beginning! It does have a certain ring to it and off course displays our feelings and emotions in just two words. Killer right?
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The list of shows that has made a big impression on us is too long to mention. Off course the highlights are shows as Obscene Extreme (Europe and Asia), Party San, In Flammen, Metal Frenzy, Brutal Assault and SummerBreeze. The way we perform on stage has nothing to do with scripted moves or actions. It is just the fun we normally have with the guys but now were holding instruments while having this fun. For us its literally having a good time! There is a lot of monkey business going on, a very lot of drinking and endless bullshit.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Yeah we do! This is yet again going to be a killer year for us! We have 13 different countries on the agenda this year. Some of them for just single shows, for example Moskou, Portugal, Czech Republic and Germany. Then we have a mini tour planed in the USA (New York) and our first nightliner tour. This will be an awesome tour in the end of the year which will be for 10 days (shows every night) and 8 different countries.
7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of brutal death metal and grindcore?
The response we got so far is killer! People seem to like the new shit a lot. I think the big difference between the songs and the past albums has a lot to do with that. Vocalwise there has been a lot of cool new changes in the sense of tone and lines. Musicalwise we have tried to step our game up a lot as well. There is a lot of different shit going on like grind, death, gore and even punk. Looks like it came together pretty well in the end.
8.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
Our bassplayer plays in another band called “Throw me in the crater” and our guitarist quit his old band at the moment he start in Rectal Smegma. For the singer and drummer this has been the only band for the last 13 years. But obviously the priority for the bassplayer and guitarist lies with Rectal Smegma.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
The musical future is unknown. As stated earlier, we just go with our own vibes and moments. We are not looking for something in particular and we are certainly not trying to re-invent the wheel here. Just having fun and tons of beer is the major priority here, the music that will come from that is as good as your guess. One thing we do know is that its not going to be unplugged and has the potential of blowing up your precious audio gear J
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Influence comes from various angels. No one in the band listens to just the same music as the rest. Metal is off course the biggest influence but in a lot of different ways. Everybody in the band listens to different kinds of metal or rock music but also modern pop music comes to ears from time to time. As long as it sounds okay for you, who gives a fuck what your listening right?
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
That would be drinking beer. Shitloads of it.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
No not really. The “thoughts department” is under severe stress and depravity of the earlier mentioned hobby; drinking shitloads of beer. Other than that we are very happy the fans still dig our (new) music and extreme idiocy on stage. We are looking forward to all the time, shows and fun to come! We really hope the fans do as well so we can get fucked all together at shows, parties en who knows were! Thanks a lot for the interest bro! Time for a cold beer! CHEERZZZZ
