Down Among The Dead Men are an international duo with members from both Sweden and Denmark and members or former members of Bolt Thrower and Paganizer and also play a mixture of death metal and crust punk and this is a review of their 2018 album "And You Will Obey Me" which was released by Transcending Obscurity Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some death metal growls and d beats a few seconds later while the music is very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's death metal era along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic Swedish style.
A great amount of crust punk elements can be heard in the music while the riffs also add in some dark sounding melodies at times along with the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as a good amount of blast beats being added into the faster sections of the songs, one of the later tracks also introduces spoken word parts onto the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Down Among The Dead Men plays a musical style that takes old school death metal and mixes it with crust punk to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death and doomsday themes.
In my opinion Down Among The Dead Men are a very great sounding mixture of death metal and crust punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Destroy The Infinite" "The End Of Time" "House Of Blue Fire" and "Panopticon". 8 out of 10.
